The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, being a Department designated[1] for the purposes of section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972[2] in relation to the common agricultural policy of the European Community, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by the said section 2(2), hereby makes the following Regulations: Citation, commencement and interpretation 1. - (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Welfare of Animals (Slaughter or Killing) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2001 and shall come into operation on 30th March 2001. (2) The Interpretation Act (Northern Ireland) 1954[3] shall apply to these Regulations as it applies to an Act of the Northern Ireland Assembly. Amendment of Welfare of Animals (Slaughter or Killing) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1996 2. In Schedule 11, paragraph 3, to the Welfare of Animals (Slaughter or Killing) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1996[4] for sub-paragraph (2)(c) there shall be substituted the following:
(This note is not part of the Regulations.) These Regulations amend the Welfare of Animals (Slaughter or Killing) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1996 ("the 1996 Regulations"). They substitute a new paragraph 3(2)(c) of Schedule 11 to the 1996 Regulations, so as to permit a new gas mixture for killing surplus chicks.
