This Order amends the Welfare of Animals (Transport) Order 1997 (S.I. 1997/1480 as amended by S.I. 1998/2537). It makes provision for the enforcement of Council Regulation (EC) No. 411/98 ("the Regulation") on additional animal protection standards applicable to road vehicles used for the carriage of livestock on journeys exceeding eight hours (OJ No. L52, 21.2.98, p. 8).
