I, Joe Walsh, Minister for Agriculture, Food
and Rural Development, in exercise of the powers conferred on me by sections
3, 5 and 13 of the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (No. 6 of 1966) (as adapted
by the Agriculture and Food (Alteration of Name of Department and Title of
Minister) Order, 1999 ( S.I. No. 307 of 1999 )), for the purpose of
preventing the spread of foot-and-mouth disease, hereby order as follows-

1. This
Order may be cited as the Diseases of Animals Act, 1966 (Foot-and-Mouth
Disease) (Restriction on Artificial Insemination) (Amendment) (No. 2) Order,
2001.
|
|
|
|
2. The Diseases
of Animals Act, 1966 (Foot-and-Mouth Disease) (Restriction on Artificial
Insemination) Order, 2001 ( S.I. No. 144 of 2001 ) is amended, in Article 6
by the insertion after paragraph (2) of that Article of —
|
|
|
|
“(3) A person shall not
cause or permit another person to engage in the artificial insemination of
bovine animals in contravention of this Article.
|
|
|
|
(4) A person shall not
have in his or her possession or under his or her control, sell or supply a
bovine animal that has been inseminated in contravention of this Article.”.

|

The effect of this Order is to prohibit
possession, sale or supply of an animal which has been inseminated lawfully
and to make it an offence to cause or permit another person unlawfully
inseminate an animal.
